What is a blog?

Why should we use blogs for ourselves and or our students? Here is a video made by a couple of teachers who have started blogging. I think it may help answer that question as well as others?

  1. Blogs between teachers and students allow them to be connected even outside of the school. They can be helpful in creating a bond between the teacher and student and also serve as an easy way for the child to access assignments and information they may need regarding the class. It could also be helpful if the parents have access to the blog so that they can see both their childs work and the assignments they have. It's a good and easy way to keep everyone activley involved in the class.

  2. Blogging is a good way to get your ideas out there. If you have things that you want your students to view it would be very easy for them to just go to a teachers blog to get the information. My high school was behind the times when it comes to technology. Most students wouldn't even know what a blog is. I think that as our world moves forward in technology more and more of it needs to be used in the classroom.

  3. Technology is the way of the future. I Remember when it was a big deal to even have computers in school and that wasn't even that long ago. Now even elementary schools have laptops to use. I feel like blogging is a great way to be productive, voice your opinions, and have fun at the same time. We should use blogs because they create an interactive learning environment that we can use both in the classroom and at home. Even when school is over, learning can still take place.

  4. Blogs are helpful for students to communicate their ideas. Rather than speaking in class, students can think more critically about what they want to share with the rest of the class before it is out in the open. Though I feel that it is important for students to learn how to speak freely in a classroom environment, I think blogs can be a stepping stone toward such abilities. If a student shares an idea on the blog, the teacher may address it in class and ask the student to elaborate more on the topic. Since the student has already given the topic some thought, it may be easier for the student to speak about it openly.

  5. Blogs are a way for students who may not feel comfortable sharing their ideas in class to offer their opinions and ask questions that they may have. Blogs also offer an organized way for students and teachers to share work or documents. It is so easy to waste a large amount of paper by printing out hundreds of copies when students lose a handout or to misplace a paper that a student may write. It is much more efficient and helpful to have one place that everyone in the classroom can go to get access to everything for that course.
Finally, whether I like it or not, technology is the way of the future. Teachers need to keep up with their students to keep them interested and connecting with the rest of the world via internet may be "the next big thing".

  6. Blogging, and other uses of technology, are becoming a vital part to the learning experience. Younger generations are getting more and more involved with technology and it is a way of teaching that they will understand and enjoy. I personally enjoy using technology to learn and I plan on implementing it into my classroom in the future. Also, blogging is an easy way to convey information in a way that is accessible to as many people as you want it to be. Technology is making communication and learning easier, and I am excited to see where it will go from here.

  7. Blogs are a great way to share information and communicate. With technology being so readily available these days, not to mention the amount of time kids are on the internet anyways, it only makes sense for teachers to utilize blogs. It enables teachers to put up class assignments, and notes for those who were out sick or had to miss the class, it provides a way for students to ask questions if they don't understand something outside of school. Blogs are also a great way for parents to keep tabs on their child's assignments and what they are learning in class.

  8. Blogs are a convenient way to allow the students to have access to homework, syllabi, and class announcements. It is a good way for the students to discuss topics they learned in class and post any questions they may have. For shy students, blogs would provide an opportunity for them to be able to discuss their opinions in a way that is more comfortable for them. Blogs can hold all of the work of the students, allowing easy access for past projects/homework. Teachers are also able to have all of the homework and assignments on one website, making it easier to grade and monitor student's progress.

  9. Classroom blogs are a nice way to convey information to students, parents, and others around the world. I really like the idea of collaboration with teachers around the world through things like twitter. Blogging provides students with opportunities to share their work and opinions with the world while remaining relatively anonymous and to have people comment and receive feedback on their works. Blogs are really nice because all students work can be stored in one place making it easy to find works. I also really like the idea that twitter is like a virtual teachers lounge. Teachers can use technology to communicate with each other which broadens their knowledge of different topics in teaching.

  10. We should use blogs because its a way to share information with others that are interested in similar topics. Blogs are really effective if their updated frequently and if their always providing new information that generates a lot of discussion and questions. Blogs are also a great way to learn from other peoples ideas

  11. Blogs are a helpful way for students, teachers and parents to stay connected outside of the classroom. They give an opportunity for everyone to interact with each other in a more comfortable setting. Students who do not feel comfortable sharing information or asking questions in class will have the freedom to post online and to see posts from other students. I also agree with the fact that it is a great place to store work done in and out of school for quick and easy reference in the future.
